Help and support
We're a small team, and we read everything. Here's how to reach us and what we can help with.
Something's not working
In the app: You → Settings → "Something not working? Report a bug". It tells us which screen you were on, the app version and whether it's an iPhone or Android, plus whatever you type into it, and nothing else you've written. Or email zachary@brainmatch.app. We aim to reply within a few days.
Signing in
- On a new phone, sign in with the email you added in Settings. We'll send you a 6-digit code.
- If you've added a passkey, you can sign in with Face ID or your phone's lock instead.
- Lost access to your email? Write to us from any address and we'll help you prove the account is yours without sharing anything you wrote.
Your data
- See everything we keep: You → Settings → Privacy and my data → **Show everything you store about me**.
- Turn off one kind of data: Privacy and my data. Turning a switch off deletes what it covered.
- Delete everything: Privacy and my data → Delete my account and data.
- Your rights: access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to object or withdraw consent at any time. Email us for anything the app doesn't do for you, like correcting something you can't edit, and we'll respond within one month. Details are in the privacy policy.
Your partner
- You choose what your partner sees; see Us and each item's share switch.
- To stop sharing, turn off the switches in Privacy. To end the link itself, Privacy → Unlink from your partner does it immediately, for both of you, and deletes nothing either of you wrote; or email us at zachary@brainmatch.app and we'll unlink the two accounts for you. After an unlink, each of you keeps your own copy of what you shared, and deleting your copy never deletes theirs. Your side of that time stays in your Journal, under Past chapters, until you delete it.
- If your partner sends you something that isn't ok, tell us: Settings → **Something your partner sent**. A person reads it within 24 hours, your partner is never told you wrote it, and if you'd like the link ended we'll end it.
- If you feel unsafe with a partner, contact your local emergency services or a domestic-abuse helpline where you live. BrainMatch isn't a crisis service.
What exactly can my partner see?
Only what you share. You each use BrainMatch on your own phone, and every written answer has its own share switch, off until you turn it on.
Your partner can't see whether you checked in today, how long you've kept going, how much you wrote, or when you last opened the app. There's nothing in BrainMatch for keeping an eye on each other.
For this or that, neither of you sees the other's answer until you've both answered. If you turn on notifications, they only say that your partner sent something, in fixed words; nothing either of you wrote is ever in them.
To stop sharing something, turn its switch off. To end the link itself, see "Your partner" above.
Reporting someone
Wherever someone else's words reach you (an introduction, a list you share with someone you connected with by code, something a partner sent), Report is right there, beside Block. You can report the words, or the person. A person at BrainMatch reads every report within 24 hours. When something breaks the Terms, we remove it and suspend or close the account that sent it. The person you report is never told it was you. You can also write to zachary@brainmatch.app; for an introduction link, the page's own "Report this link" puts the link's code in the email for you.
Questions people ask
Is BrainMatch available outside the US?
Not yet. The beta is open to people in the United States first. Other countries follow once the legal groundwork for each one is done, and we'd rather do that properly than quickly, so we're not giving dates.
BrainMatch is for adults 18 and over.
What happens when I turn a switch off in Privacy?
Every kind of data in BrainMatch has its own switch. When you turn one off, what it covered is deleted, not hidden. We warn you before it happens, in words, so it's never a surprise.
Everything else keeps working. Turning off one switch doesn't close your account or touch anything else you've kept.
If you want to see what's stored first, Privacy and my data → Show everything you store about me gives you everything we keep about you. If you want it all gone, Privacy and my data → Delete my account and data.
Why is there no compatibility score?
Because we don't think a number can tell you that about two people, so we won't pretend one does. BrainMatch never gives you a compatibility score, never grades you, and never compares you with anyone else. It doesn't predict whether a relationship will last.
What you get instead is words. Your brain map grows with how much you've shared, never with how "strong" a trait is: a tall plant means you've said a lot, not that you have more of it. Couples who both turn it on can get a monthly Complementary Report about where they're alike and where they complement each other, in plain sentences, with no number on it.
Beta testers
Thank you. Bug reports and honest feedback shape what we build next. See the beta page. These are the questions testers ask first.
The app crashed, or something broke. What do I do?
In the app: You → Settings → "Something not working? Report a bug". It tells us which screen you were on, the app version and whether it's an iPhone or Android, plus whatever you type, and nothing else you've written. Or email zachary@brainmatch.app. A person reads every report. A fix to the app arrives in a new test build; fixes on our server can be quicker.
What exactly can my partner see?
Only what you share. You each use BrainMatch on your own phone, and every written answer has its own share switch, off until you turn it on. Your partner can't see whether you checked in, how long you've kept going, how much you wrote, or when you last opened the app. For this or that, neither of you sees the other's answer until you've both answered. Notifications, if you turn them on, only say that your partner sent something, in fixed words.
How do I delete my account?
You → Settings → Privacy and my data → Delete my account and data, then confirm. It deletes your account, your answers, your check-ins, your journal, your photos, your questionnaires and your brain map, on our server and on your phone. If you're linked, the link ends for both of you; nothing of theirs is deleted. If you can't get into the app, email zachary@brainmatch.app from the address you signed in with and say "delete my account". The details are on the delete-account page.
Is Megan an AI?
No. Megan is a character the BrainMatch team writes. Her lines are written in advance and picked by simple rules (a follow-up when you mention "Thursday", for example); her voice is AI text-to-speech, made ahead of time. Nothing you write is sent to an AI service. You can turn her voice off in You → Settings → Reminders → "Megan speaks when a screen opens" (the same switch as Sound on on the first screen). We plan deeper trait analysis with AI one day; before it starts, it will be described here and in the app first.
What's TestFlight?
Apple's app for trying apps before they're on the App Store. Install TestFlight from the App Store, open the invite we email you, and install BrainMatch from inside it. It runs like a normal app, and new builds arrive through TestFlight too. A test build stops working 90 days after it's uploaded, so a newer one replaces it before then.
I didn't get my sign-in code.
There are no passwords, so the code is how you get in. Check spam, and make sure it's the email you added in Settings. A code works for 15 minutes; after five wrong tries it stops working, so ask for a new one and use the newest email. If you've added a passkey, Face ID or your phone's lock works instead. Still nothing? Write to us from any inbox.
Will I be paid, or asked to rate it?
Testers are thanked, not paid. Nobody from BrainMatch will ask you to review, upvote or post anything, and nothing is offered for a rating. Once, after something real in the app, your phone may show Apple's or Google's own rating prompt; you can ignore it.
Can I leave the beta?
Yes, any time, no reason needed. Say so and we take you off the tester list. Your app data is yours to delete under Privacy and my data, and we delete your beta sign-up on request.
I'm on Android. Can I join?
Yes. Android testers join through Google Play's own testing program: when your invite is ready, we email you a link. We'd rather not promise a date.
Does anyone read what I write?
Your answers are yours. Your partner sees only what you share; the owner's dashboard shows counts and never anything anyone wrote, except the words in a report; nothing you write is sent to an AI service; a bug report carries nothing you've written except what you type into it. The exceptions are what reaches us through a report: a note in a bug report, a suggestion, "Something your partner sent", or a Report on someone's words, which carries those words as the reporter saw them. A person reads each one so they can help.
